The Kalinka 4×24 POSP Russian Optics Rifle Scope

kalinka-feature

The Kalinka 4×24 POSP rifle scope is known for its superior quality.  There’s a reason why it’s chosen as the rifle scope issue for the Red Army.  It’s a well-constructed piece of equipment that looks like a big heavy hunk of metal, but it’s actually very light and made of magnesium alloy.  The Kalinka 4×24 POSP is a very good value scope for the AK system which it is designed specifically for.  It fits pretty well with the distance and accuracy that AK’s do take.  Accessories are also available like the illumination color, glare reducing lens caps, sun shields, and more depending on the user’s needs.

Naturally, the most unique feature of the Kalinka 4×24 POSP Russian Optics rifle scope is the rangefinder that helps the user distinguish wind scale and adjustment for bullet drop by providing aiming chevrons that indicate distance for every 100 meters.  Kalinka Optics took into consideration that a variety of different calibers would be used with their POSP rifle scopes while in the design process.  So with this in mind Kalinka Optics designed their rifle scopes to be used effectively with any caliber including 7.62x39mm, .308, .223 NATO, 7.62x54R and 5.45x39mm.  Additionally, the 4×24 POSP rifle scope is the only rifle scope available with a 400 meter reticule allowing it to be a first choice amongst militaries throughout the world for its quick reaction shooting abilities at 100, 200, and 300 meters when used with 7.62x39mm ammunition.

Mounting the POSP Rifle Scope

Mounting the 4×24 POSP rifle scope is very simple and only takes a few moments.  Begin by sliding the mount through the side rail located on the left side of the rifle, opposite the bolt extractor.  Once the scope is slid through the rifle’s side rail than begin adjusting the retaining clip or lever until the scope feels snug against the rifle.  Keep in mind that Kalinka POSP rifle scopes mount only to rifles with a preinstalled side rail.  However, AKs manufactured by K-Var, KBI, Hesse, Century, Arsenal USA etc. include a preinstalled side rail.

Sighting and Zeroing the POSP Rifle Scope

The dial located on the top of the POSP rifle scope is for adjusting range. Simply put, when firing at a target at 200 meters the dial should be set to “2”.  When firing at a target less than 100 meters the dial should be set to “0”.  The aiming chevrons located underneath the center crosshairs are for adjusting for bullet drop at 1000, 1100, and 1200 meters aiming with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chevrons accordingly.

The dial located on the side of the POSP rifle scope is for adjusting against wind effects.  Simply put, if the wind is blowing from the right to the left you would adjust your rangefinder to the left accordingly vise versa if the wind is blowing from left to right.  When adjusting your rangefinder for wind effects every turn of the dial is equal to 0.1 meters of line of site movement for every 100 meters and 0.3 meters at 300 meters.  Keep in mind adjusting for wind effects will move the point of impact on your target roughly 4” for every 100 meters for every left or right click/turn of the dial.

When zeroing the POSP rifle scope the goal is to set the accuracy of the scope as closely as possible to the rifle’s own iron sights.  Do this by setting your target at 50 meters and mount the rifle into a stationary position. Fire a round using just the iron sights than mount the POSP rifle scope. Set both dials to “0” and fire as close to the bulls eye as possible.  If the bullet hits to the upper or lower left or right of the previous bullet than adjust accordingly by setting the dials to the previous round.

When adjusting the sight keep in mind to keep the rifle stationary if possible otherwise more ammunition will have to be fired in order to compensate for adjustments.  Once adjusted fire the next round.  If the round fires in the same direction then readjust to increase accuracy otherwise the rifle should be properly zeroed in within the first three to five rounds.

Rifle scopes come and go, but one that will definitely leave an impression is the Kalinka 4×24. If you have a rifle from an AK variant, then you’ll find this to be a very amazing addition to the rifle. Overall, I found the scope to be quite powerful for its size and it’s quite effective too.
